  • Guides on how to deliver content in a culturally appropriate manner.

Yes. In addition to the interactive module activities, each lesson plan provides suggestions for additional activities and discussion points that can be used to explore the subject area further.

Reporting tools are available by logging into your teacher account. The reporting tools provide access to full transcripts of the online training performed by your students as well as summaries at both a student and class level.

Can I create my own course?
Yes. The resource features a number of subject areas, with modules designed for each learning stage as established in the Australian Curriculum. While modules are designed to build on learning in previous stages, they do not rely on previous knowledge and can be taught independent of other modules. This provides teachers with complete flexibility in deciding which modules are appropriate for their class, how many modules will be used and in what order.

Can I hide the games from my students?
You can’t hide the games but you can lock students out of the gaming area during class times, or until homework has been completed. Our rewards system, whether gaming, badges, or certificates is an important part of our student engagement.

Will my school learn about its local Aboriginal community?
We aim to have a good representation of language groups across Australia however, it is not possible to include content from every language group in Australia. More language groups will be represented as time goes on.

We encourage teachers to include their local community’s culture in their lessons where possible and advice on how to do this is in the lesson plans.

Where local content is available, it will be highlighted on the class activity page, viewable after the teacher has logged in.

We are always on the look out for new content and perspectives so if your local community would like to be involved with Wingaru Kids, please contact us.

Why is teaching Aboriginal studies important?
Learning about Aboriginal people and issues is important for all students. As well as being incredibly interesting, Aboriginal Studies:

  • builds an understanding of contemporary Aboriginal issues;
  • encourages students to look at issues from other perspectives and to consider issues more holistically;
  • promotes reconciliation; and
  • supports improved attendance and educational outcomes for Aboriginal students.
“We need to overcome the view that Aboriginal education is only for Aboriginal students - all students need to be learning about Australia’s true history and the journey of our traditional owners. We also need to change the way Aboriginal eduction is delivered - Aboriginal perspectives need to become a regular part of the classroom, not just limited to one week of the year.”
